Hike at McKinney Roughs

The weather here in Austin has gone from very cold (in the 20's when we wake up in the morning and barely 50 in the day... I know that's nothing for all of you who are in the single digits ....) to 45 last night and almost 80 today. It was hot. But we decided to hike in a park along the Colorado River just east of Austin and it was a really beautiful day even with the warmth.... Bill and I with Emile, Stacy and the dogs... Here's Pearl enjoying the ride to the park.
The beginning.

Stacy found this Water Moccasin along the path by the river. Thankfully he was logy and not interested in hassling us. Phew.

Two different shots of the river from the overlook in very different light, taken only minutes apart.

It's very dry here and Travis County (where Austin is) has a burn ban as of 2 days ago. We're not even supposed to light our charcoal grill to cook dinner! Now that's a hardship. Footprints of various animals were pressed into the earth along the path and have been there since it was last muddy and the earth dried. This picture just shows the cracked earth.

That's it for now! Cheers. Karen and Bill
