Marathon, TX and the Road to El Paso, TX
While visiting the Big Bend area and the park we stayed at a nice little RV park in Marathon, TX. This is one of the views from the campground and Bill is returning from a round of ball throwing with the dogs. Out west is seems hard to find a spot to play ball with them where it doesn't hurt their feet. Lots of gravel and prickers and Mango especially has sensitive tootsies.
The town of Marathon is basically a one road town and the biggest business in it is the Gage Hotel. It was quite a surprise to find a 5 star hotel right there with a 5 star restaurant.....
and a 5 star bar called "White Buffalo Bar". We met some very interesting people there and had a great time as you can see. That was a real buffalo that lived out its' life on a ranch, in Montana or Wyoming, I think and then the owner brought the big guy to his hotel. Imposing fellow. We would absolutely recommend this hotel. Our friends showed us their room and it was beautiful in a very Texas way.
Back at the RV Park you can see storm clouds over the distant mountains but the rain never came to where we were. They get very little rain there.
Source for water at the campground. Wind mills like this are a familiar site all over the west that we've traveled.
This is a Scaled Quail and the first we have ever seen. These were at the campground and fun to watch.
