White Sands National Monument, N.M.

When you approach White Sands National Monument from the south this is the kind of terrain you see.

When you approach the monument from the mountains to the east of it you can see it from quite a distance.

The park is 275 miles of Gypsum sand at the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert and these dunes make up the largest gypsum dune field in the world.

The dunes are always spreading and there are plants and animals specially adapted to the world of the dunes.

You can see plenty of terrain where people have walked but there are quiet area where the wind has blown the sand into beautiful art.

We are always looking for a place to exercise the dogs...they had a great time here.

I thought this park was absolutely gorgeous and would love to visit it again.
